All about Barbie

I absolutely think that the Barbie doll is cool! I adore her so much because she’s totally stylish, she stars in movies, and she’s a cultural icon. I will never forget the true memories that I’ve had with my Barbie dolls.

Barbara (Barbie) MIllicent Roberts was created on March 9th, 1959 by a woman named Ruth Handler when she was watching her daughter at play with paper dolls. During a trip to Europe in 1956, Handler came across a German fashion doll named Lilli. The doll was EXACTLY what she had in mind, so she bought 3 of them. She gave one of the dolls to her daughter and took the other 2 back to Mattel, the toy company famous for manufacturing American Girl dolls and Fisher Price toys. Upon her return to the United States, she took the doll and reworked it. It was given it a new name, Barbie, after Handler’s daughter Barbara.

Barbie has had over 40 pets, including cats, dogs, horses, pandas, and some very adorable baby animals. Her first pet was a horse named Dancer from 1970. She currently has a golden retriever named Tanner, and she also owns all 3 of Tanner’s cute puppies! She has had approximately 108 careers in her lifetime. Barbie’s careers show that girls can do anything in their lifetimes if they just try their best, believe in themselves, and never give up.

Barbie began her career as an actress in 1987 with a movie called Barbie And The Rockers: Out Of This World. The movie was released as a tie-in to Mattel’s popular 1980’s doll line, Barbie And The Rockers. There was a second part for the movie that was released the exact same year as part 1. There weren’t any other Barbie movies seen after that. In 2001, 14 years after Barbie And The Rockers, there was a CGI animated Barbie movie called Barbie And The Nutcracker. Shortly after that, there was a 2002 animated movie called Barbie as Rapunzel. Those 2 movies, and all the rest of the Barbie movies up to Barbie In A Mermaid Tale, had the Barbie prontagonist voiced by Kelly Sheridan, a Canadian voice-over actress from Vancouver, British Columbia. In A Fashion Fairytale, she was voiced by newcomer to the Barbie voiceover world, Diana Kaarina.  Barbie also starred in the Disney/Pixar film, Toy Story 3, alongside Ken, who wore a reproduction of an outfit from 1986 called Animal Loving Outfit. As for Barbie, she wore a vintage outfit in that movie herself. She wore the 1983 Great Shape outfit. In that movie, she was voiced by Jodi Benson. I just love seeing commercials for Barbie movies!

Barbie has a lot of family and friends, including ones from other brands and movies! The ones I know about are going to be listed here:

Skipper (1964-current)
Stacie (1992-current)
